The monthly history is retained rather than replacing old observations, so the series grows with every approved scan.

llms.txt vs. llms-full.txt

Some sites publish the short index file, some add the full-content file, and a few publish both. The table above reports each group separately rather than combining file types.

Methodology

Each month Rankability takes the Tranco top domains—a research-grade ranking that averages several traffic sources—and requests both /llms.txt and /llms-full.txt over HTTPS with an identified crawler. The top-1,000 and top-10,000 views come from the same crawl. The source list for this run was published 2026-06-23.

A site counts only when it returns a real text file: HTTP 200 with plain-text content. HTML, empty files, and soft 404s count as no file. Timeouts, DNS/TLS failures, blocks, and server failures are unknown rather than guessed. Apex and www hosts are tried, and transient failures are retried.

The conservative headline divides confirmed adopters by every site in the sample, leaving unknowns in the denominator. Every monthly result is stored as an immutable time series, and large changes are flagged for human review.

Infrastructure, CDN, DNS, cloud API, and storage domains often do not serve a public website at the root, so they cannot publish an llms.txt file. They are recorded as unknown rather than silently removed. In the top-1,000 view, Rankability reached a verdict on 549 sites and recorded 451 as unknown. Among the reachable sites, 15.8% published a file; the public 8.7% headline deliberately uses all 1,000 sites as its denominator.

The source list is Tranco list 26NV9, dated June 23, 2026. The published dataset was generated August 23, 2026.
