A shopper asking about a certified pre-owned vehicle needs different information from a driver booking service. A dealership’s AEO partner has to work with both journeys, changing inventory, and the systems behind the website. Which agencies does AI put on a dealer’s hiring shortlist?
We asked 11 AI platforms the same question: “who are the best AEO agencies for car dealerships?” All 11 returned an answer on October 3, 2026 (UTC). We recorded the agency names and the pages cited, then combined aliases and separated identifiable agency businesses from software, individuals, client examples, and names we could not confirm.
Answer engine optimization (AEO) helps a business become visible in AI-generated answers. This report measures agency mentions in one capture. It does not evaluate service quality, verify claims made by the AI answers, or predict campaign results.
Rankability is software, not an agency. This is an industry edition of our SaaS AEO agency research. The two reports use different capture dates; this edition ranks by platform coverage because this export does not include structured agency mention positions.
Key findings
- A3 Brands led platform coverage. It was named by 6 of 11 platforms. No agency in the identified roster appeared in all 11.
- The identified roster contains 33 agencies. They account for 75 distinct agency/platform pairs. 13 appeared on only one platform. Names without a confirmed agency identity are excluded from these totals.
- The answers produced different-sized shortlists. Meta AI, DeepSeek each named 13 agencies in the roster; ChatGPT, Google AI Overview each named 3. These counts describe this capture, not a platform’s overall quality or difficulty.
- The citation pool contains 61 distinct pages. The most widely cited page was on bluelinks.agency, appearing in 4 platform citation lists. A citation to a page is different from a mention of the agency that published it.
What this means for a dealership: A3 Brands had the widest coverage in this capture, at 6 of 11 platforms. That gives you a name to investigate. It does not establish experience with your website provider, vehicle inventory, or dealership CRM. Keep this dated shortlist as a baseline, then verify the operational fit of any partner you consider.
The leaderboard
The first 16 agencies below are sorted by distinct platform coverage. Coverage is the number of captured platform answers naming the agency divided by 11. Equal counts share a rank and are displayed alphabetically. If a tie crosses the 16-row boundary, alphabetical order determines which tied names appear here; the full roster is linked below. This is an AI visibility comparison, not a ranking of agency capabilities.

Agencies named per platform
These counts use the full identified roster, rather than only the 10 agencies shown in the matrix.
What the cited pages show
Across the 11 answers, we recorded 61 distinct cited pages. The table shows the 10 cited by the most platforms, with ties ordered by URL. A page can discuss several agencies, and its publisher may not be named in the answer. Citation counts therefore do not substitute for agency coverage.

These links come from the export. Display labels use the captured titles, with URL-derived labels when a title is missing or is a placeholder. The JSON and source CSV preserve the original titles. This is not an independent evaluation of every page. Pages may change or disappear after capture. A source’s inclusion does not establish that its claims are accurate.
Citation reconciliation: one URL present in a captured answer was absent from the workbook’s consolidated citation sheet. It is retained here and marked “Restored from answer” in the source CSV. Its display title is derived from the URL because the consolidated sheet supplied no title.
Agency-owned roundups and mentions
For an additional check, we matched cited domains to the known agency websites in this roster. We then selected titles or URL paths that identify a “best” or “top” agency, company, firm, or consultant list. This is a title/URL classification, not a full editorial review of the pages. The table includes only matched agency-owned roundup pages; unmatched domains are not assigned an owner.
| Agency | Platforms citing its roundup | Also naming the agency |
|---|---|---|
| A3 Brands | 1 | 1 |
| Catalyst IQ | 2 | 2 |
| Dealers United | 3 | 3 |
| Bluelinks Agency | 5 | 3 |
| Dealer.com | 1 | 0 |
| First Page Sage | 1 | 0 |
| Thrive Internet Marketing Agency | 1 | 1 |
| Web Tonic | 2 | 2 |
| Optimist | 1 | 1 |
The last column counts the intersection of the two platform sets. An overlap is an association in this capture. It does not show that the roundup caused a recommendation. The downloadable JSON includes the matched URLs and platform sets.
How to evaluate an AEO partner
Treat the leaderboard as a discovery list. Before hiring, ask the agency to show how its plan would work with your dealership’s inventory, departments, and reporting systems. A recommendation for an agency is only the starting point.
What to ask a dealership AEO agency
| Priority | Evidence to request | Outcome to measure |
|---|---|---|
| Vehicle detail pages (VDPs) | An audit of live vehicle pages, inventory feeds, indexing, and what happens when a vehicle sells. | Inquiries about available vehicles, with stale inventory requests tracked separately. |
| Sales and service coverage | Separate plans for model comparisons, certified pre-owned (CPO) questions, finance FAQs, and service appointments. | Qualified sales inquiries and service bookings reported by department. |
| Location and dealership identity | Consistent store names, addresses, hours, manufacturer relationships, and local profiles for each rooftop. | Mentions, citations, and relevant inquiries for each actual location. |
| Lead attribution | A process for connecting recorded calls and forms to CRM outcomes, with known attribution gaps explained. | Appointments and sales linked to identifiable inquiries where the data allows. |
Start with the website you have. Ask who can change templates and feeds, how quickly sold inventory is removed, and whether important vehicle details are available on the rendered page. Model pages, CPO program details, trade-in information, and service FAQs need owners who can keep them accurate. If manufacturer co-op approval applies to the work, establish who checks it before publishing.
Request technical evidence. For Google’s AI features, pages need to be indexed and eligible to appear with a snippet. Google says there are no additional technical requirements or special AI schema. Ask the agency to demonstrate crawl access, indexability, and accurate visible information, using Google’s AI search guidance as a reference.
Make attribution part of the proposal. An agency should explain how visibility observations will be compared with dealership outcomes. A brand mention, an AI referral visit, a booked appointment, and a sale are separate measures. Agree which systems record each one and where the connection cannot be established.
Example client questions to track
Use a client-specific prompt set alongside the broad agency-hiring question. These are examples for planning a future baseline; they were not tested in this study:
- Which dealerships in [city] sell certified pre-owned [make] vehicles?
- What should I compare when choosing between [model A] and [model B]?
- Where can I book [make] maintenance near [suburb]?
What this means if you run an agency
For automotive agencies, turn this research into a location-by-location client plan. The broad hiring shortlist tells you which agency names buyers may encounter. A dealership campaign needs its own questions about vehicles, ownership, and service.
- Build a baseline by rooftop and department. Track the same vehicle-shopping and service questions separately across platforms. Record the brands and pages cited so a missing store, model page, or service page becomes a specific item to investigate.
- Choose a page the client can maintain. Review cited competitors against the client’s model pages, VDPs, and finance or service FAQs. Prioritize accurate stock information and useful answers, then assign responsibility for updates.
- Report visibility beside dealership outcomes. Repeat the same prompts and compare the results with qualified inquiries and appointments in the client’s existing call tracking and CRM. Use our AI search visibility checklist to organize the page review.

Methodology
Capture settings
- Prompt: “who are the best AEO agencies for car dealerships”
- Capture date: October 3, 2026 (UTC). Exact timestamps and worksheet rows are retained in the downloadable JSON.
- Coverage: one recorded answer from each of 11 platforms.
- Source:
tracker-export-2026-10-03.xlsx, supplied to Rankability for this report. - Language: the captured answers are in English. Location configuration, model versions, and personalization settings are not supplied in this export, so we do not assume them.
Agency identification and name cleanup
We use Tracker’s recorded entity labels and reasons, cross-check agency identities against official business websites, and combine known aliases. The roster includes identifiable marketing service businesses; software-only labels, individuals, client examples, and unresolved identities are excluded. We do not assume that an AI description of an agency’s expertise is true. Some provider answer text does not preserve every visible name or link; the recorded entity labels are retained with the original answer text so readers can inspect that limitation.
This report excludes 28 distinct canonical entity names, including 20 whose agency identity was not confirmed. The excluded-entity CSV records each excluded label, platform, reason, and worksheet row. Excluded names are not included in the agency or mention totals. The counts are therefore specific to the identified roster, not an exhaustive count of all marketing businesses that may be represented in the raw answers.
Metrics and ties
- Platforms naming an agency: the number of distinct platform entity lists containing its normalized name. Repeated names and aliases within one platform count once.
- Visibility: platform count ÷ 11 × 100, rounded to the nearest whole percent.
- Agency/platform mentions: the sum of platform counts across the identified roster; this is not the number of repeated text mentions.
- Rank: descending platform coverage, with equal coverage sharing rank. Names within a tie appear alphabetically.
- Cited pages: distinct recorded URL strings across the answer citation lists and consolidated citation sheet. Equivalent URLs with different strings are not silently merged.
- Mention positions and scores: not reported. The workbook’s tracked-brand position field is not structured agency-position data. The source citation score is also not an agency score.
Editorial research update
The dealership selection criteria and example client prompts were expanded on October 6, 2026 using a completed supplemental entity report and official Google guidance. This was a separate editorial research pass with limited source coverage, not a new capture of the 11 AI answers. The October 3 agency roster, ranks, mentions, citation counts, and downloadable dataset are unchanged. The example prompts are suggestions, not reported measurements.

Limitations
This is one question, one capture date, and one recorded answer per platform. Answers can change with time, model, settings, and user context. The study does not measure hiring suitability, customer satisfaction, lead volume, service quality, or the accuracy of every recommendation. Agency identification and alias choices affect the roster. Missing or unresolved identities can change the ranking if confirmed later. Citations and mentions describe co-occurrence; they do not establish causation.
